Solarpunk is an art movement that encourages us to envision a more sustainable and optimistic future in the face of the threats to ourselves and the next generations from environmental destruction and climate change.
Science tells us that we have 9 years to stop runaway climate heating on the planet, the effects of which we are seeing now but not acknowledging with the urgency we need to.
Solarpunk imagines the very possible and best solutions, and outcomes we can hope for if we work together to become more sustainable and lower our carbon footprint. Solarpunk Aotearoa is a world first all-encompassing festival taking the vision of Solarpunk to the streets of Thames, Coromandel. The festival will celebrate our creativity, our innovation and the resilience of our community to tackle this problem together.
It will be in essence one big party featuring exhibitions, creative workshops, eco tech, EV and trade expos, insightful talks, tree planting and beach clean-ups among other community projects and displays. To top it all off, a music festival featuring two main stages and various performing hotspots through town will showcase the best of local and invited talent
Solarpunk Aotearoa is aimed at all ages and is dedicated to accessibility, representing all voices and reinforcing tolerance and respect for all festival goers and the spaces which are generously hosting us. Solarpunk Aotearoa above all is a call to action. Thames is our turangawaewae. Thames is where we stand. We invite you to stand with us for a better future.
